What I Want To Learn

There are many things in my lifetime that i would want to learn about. One thing i would like to learn is sign language. I feel like sign language is a very useful form of language when it comes to helping people and communicating with others. When i see others communicating in sign language it really does amaze and fascinate me.

Sign language is a very hard language to learn and to teach. It seems like it would be very hard to pick up and use everyday. I know that their are many different hang signals for each letter, number, and word. A lot of people use sign language when they have trouble speaking or if they are deaf. Gallaudet University was the first college for the deaf in America. It was named after Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet. It is a private and very expensive college which hearing people can attend but deaf persons get first pick. The National Association of the Deaf was founded in Cincinnati, Ohio. Sign language is the fourth most-used language in the US. Deaf History Month is observed from March 13th to April 15th every year. I want to learn sign language because it can be very useful when applying to jobs and it just good to know more than one way to communicate.

There are many people who helped contribute to sign language and who used sign language to communicate with others. Alexander Graham Bell made it his mission to help the deaf. He wanted to help advance the communication between people who are deaf and the hearing world. Today, there is the Alexander Graham Bell Association For The Deaf and Hard Of Hearing. Helen Keller also used sign language when she became blind and deaf.
